What is Anti-spam Software

August 30, 2009 · Posted in Spam · Comment

Before we learn about anti-spam software, we need to first know what is spam. To put it succinctly, spam is unsolicited and unwanted email. Other names for spam are Unsolicited Bulk Mail, Excessive Multi-Posting, and Unsolicited Commercial email, in addition to the more common – spam mail, bulk email or just junk mail. The advent of email brought in an era of instant communication, where information reaches our desktops, at negligible cost, and in no time at all, from across the globe.

Along with the benefits, came the negative aspects of email. For the multitudes of marketing hawks out there, this was an opportunity to send unsolicited promotions of their products, instantly, and at a very low cost. Today, spam has reached such monumental proportions that 10 out of every 13 emails (76.9%) we receive are spam, one way or the other. This is why anti-Spam filter has become a must have software for almost all PC users.

Stopping Spam

Simply put, anti-spam software helps detect spam. It is a software program that detects unsolicited and unwanted e-mail, and prevents them from reaching your inbox.

Anti-Spam software is also known by many different names, such as: Spam Filters, Email Spam Filtering, Spam Blocking Software, Anti-Spam Filter, Spam Filtering Software, Spam Blockers, Bayesian Filters, and Anti-Spam, among many others.

Anti-spam software is installed in your machine to divert the spam coming in. If installed in the mail server, you will never receive the spam, to begin with. The filtering is configured based on a number of criteria. These could be specific words in the subject line, in the body of the message, and the type of attachments accompanying the mail. You could arrange to filter out even the sender’s email address. Certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) maintain a blacklist of habitual spam senders – known as spammers. Anti-spam software detects these blacklisted senders and rejects them per se.

Over time, anti-Spam software has become sophisticated to match with the wiles of the spammers. They use techniques that do not trash genuine emails by effectively analyzing the content of the email. Such software looks for keywords and tries to interpret their meanings in the sentences. Certain spam filters do not accept emails that come to you in the form of “Undisclosed Recipients.” They accept emails where your email address is in the “to” or “cc” fields.

Anti-spam software has become an essential part of your computer’s security, to ensure that you only receive the emails you want, and not others. To help eliminate spam, look for anti-spam software that has the following features, among many others:

• Blocking emails using both lists and preset filters – blocks specific addresses, watches subject lines, and messages within

• Updating filters automatically

• Isolates spam outside of your inbox

• Puts acceptable emails automatically into your safe list

• Monitors and filters multiple email accounts

Now that you know the basics about the need and importance of anti-Spam filter, select the right one for your computer and get rid of the menace of Spam.

Software reviews: Symantec Norton Antivirus (2008) – Part 8

August 30, 2009 · Posted in Antivirus · Comment

Norton Antivirus 2008 is yet another product by famous Symantec that promises us peace of mind and security from viruses and spyware. The most known and used antivirus offers instant protection by blocking security threats before they have a chance to enter and damage your computer. New Norton doesn’t leave anything unchecked. Even your emails and instant messaging files are scanned now for potential malware.

After a quick installation, update and first scan you will have your hands on the most reliable antivirus. So let us have a look at what Norton can offer us this time.

SONAR

Symantec Online Network for Advance Response is a new feature which changed the way Norton detects viruses. Instead of looking for signatures, Norton Antivirus 2008 now monitors the behavior of programs. This proactive technology helps to detect potential threats way before they attempt to cause damage. SONAR stays active and runs security checks on downloaded items even when the you turn off virus protection.

Automatic Blocks

Norton Antivirus 2008 quietly works in the background and does not need your attention to solve any potential security problem. You will get a warning that a threat was found but you will not need to stop your work and solve the problem, because Norton will do everything by itself.

Built-in Updates

Unlike its previous versions, Norton Antivirus 2008 has a built-in update system, which means easier and more convenient updates of the software. While you surf the web or chat with your friends, the new Norton continuously checks for updates and responds immediately if they are available, making you computer always secure from new threats.

Browser Defense

This new feature gives an important extra protection, because web browsers have vulnerabilities that can be used by harmful malware to enter your system. Norton Antivirus 2008 is aware of these vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer and gives its extra attention to prevent any threats from downloading themselves on your computer by using these security gaps.

Rootkit Detection

Rootkits are malicious programs that can gain full control over your hardware and the administrative rights. They can damage core components of the operating system and software. Rootkits can be hard to detect, as they often disguise themselves as harmless. That is why Norton Antivirus 2008 is irreplaceable when it comes to protection against them. Norton will detect any suspicious activity normally carried out by a rootkit

How to fight spam – Part 14

August 29, 2009 · Posted in Spam · Comment

You know, it was bad enough when I was getting spam at my personal e-mail address, but I knew that was because I sign up for all kinds of different offers, programs, and am aware that my name gets sold from company to company. The practice of selling people’s contact information is generally legal, unless the company is not legit or the person has requested to have their name removed. Many companies would not be able to survive without purchasing lists and gaining subscribers or customers from other companies’ lists. I’m not thrilled about it, but it’s a very common practice.

However, one thing you may want to do but really shouldn’t is provide your email address to request to remove your name from a mailing list. I feel like it’s almost subconscious, or common sense, at the least, to scroll down seeking that link or further instructions to remove yourself from the list. Get me off! But what you do not know is that by removing yourself from that list, you may be placed on yet another list, and your name will continue to be sold throughout cyberspace. So what do you do instead? Report them as spam or junk mail, and they will be removed from your inbox or flagged so you know what’s coming.

Now, some of you may be hesitant as I am to use your spam setting on high because your important emails may get caught and deleted, so keep your setting on medium. You’ll get way too much spam if it’s on low. Even at medium, some of your emails may get caught, so make sure to add the individual email addresses to your safe list. Certain email and Internet providers also give you the option of screening emails before they get to your Inbox (kind of like a temporary spam arreast). That way you can permit the emails you want to receive to come in, and ignore the rest.

With the Internet now booming with companies offering infinite problems, spam has become a necessary evil in marketing strategy. The best way to fight it is to keep it away from you. Also know that one man’s spam is another man’s treasure, so don’t automatically assume that “no one wants this junk”. Spam has been used because it is successful despite the fact that it constantly clogs our inboxes.

Abcs of an Antivirus System

August 28, 2009 · Posted in Antivirus · Comment

Viruses can infect computers and play havoc with files on the computer. They can destroy and cause irreparable crashes. Computers can be protected from virus by installing anti virus systems. The internet being an information highway has in depth articles on antivirus systems and how a computer user can choose an appropriate system and what the latest anti virus software are. You must always choose antivirus products that are certified by either Checkmark, ICSALabs, or VB100%. Choose an antivirus system that has passed the rigorous tests conducted by AV-Test org.

What an anti virus system does is it scans the computer files for any known viruses matching definitions in the virus dictionary. It will also identify suspicious behavior for existing computer programs that is indicative of infections. Antivirus systems act by:

• Repairing infected files by removing the virus from the file.

• Quarantine the virus infected file so that it does not spread.

• Delete the infected file.

• Choose antivirus software that is simple to use and suits your particular computer system.

• Determine whether you will require an antivirus and anti-spyware scanner. Very often antivirus systems like McAfee have spyware protection as well as anti virus protection in one system.

• According to experts you must only have one kind of antivirus system running on your computer. Or if you do need two separate systems then one must be enabled for real time scanning while the other can be used manually to scan selected files.

• Before installing new antivirus software you need to remove old antivirus software, reboot the computer and then proceed with the installation of the new antivirus system.

• Always choose an antivirus system that is recommended by experts. Read ZDnet or PC magazine online and find out what their editors recommend. Popular choices are BitDefender, McAfee, and Kaspersky Lab, these are suitable for both known and unknown malware.

Computer experts recommend that the computer should be scanned regularly to detect infections. There are antivirus packages that permit automatic scans, this will scan specified files or directories automatically and warn you of any infections.

To protect your system completely it is important to scan files before opening them. Always scan email attachments and web downloads before opening the files in your system. Always scan DVDs and CDs for viruses before opening any files.

Keep the antivirus system updated and read reviews as well as blogs written by experts on anti virus software systems. Visit sites like http://csrc.nist.gov/virus/ for the latest updates on computer viruses.

The World Wide Web has several online resources where you will find valuable information on antivirus systems for your computer. Popular sources are: http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,4796,00.asp and http://reviews.cnet.com/Software/2001-3513_7-0.html .

If you keep your computer protected from viruses you will never have to worry about loosing valuable data.

Antivirus or Internet Security ?

August 24, 2009 · Posted in Antivirus · Comment

ANTIVIRUS OR INTERNET SECURITY ?

.

Better be not protected  than half protected … this not a chinese tantra, but internet reality.

Since Hackers became best friends with antivirus multinationals, they have been working hard on finding new solutions to increase the market.

Many new webinars have this fear of virus and the first application they ‘re downloading on internet is an Antivirus, as soon it’s on they feel so secure that they don’t pay any attention on what they ‘re surfing from then.

I should admit that from the 15 years I’m on the web, I’ve never bough any antivirus or internet security, and it has only cost me 2 computers, total cost 3000 $ to save 1000 $ antivirus over 15 years.

Well I don’t think I will still risk another computer and certainly not all my datas !

While surfing to find the best protection , you may notice that providers are offering different types of protections.

Antivirus, firewall, antispyware, internet security, total protection … Norton goes now to 360 edition and talking about all in one protection.

Beware, as much it’s protecting, your pc can still be affect by the way you are surfing and understanding where you’re going. It doesn’t protect against stupidity !

I’ve seen many ads on TV talking about https, what does it mean? Only that your paiement is secure and keep your privacy, it doesn’t assure that you’re paying for the product you ‘ve been requesting, some webmaster are selling links to free trials ! That ’s call Scam sites, and nothing is protecting you against it, so keep paying attention on the site you’ re on, the trademarks have to appears at the bottom fo the page, and for more security, go directly to the dot com domain of the provider.

Big search engine as Google are working whit robots ans they can’t detect those kind of scam sites untill someone human is telling them!

If you’r looking for an Intelligent search engine to download software, go to software-cie.com, every links are reviewed manually and all certified from officials resellers.

Back to my first purpose … so Antivirus or Internet Security ?

The most popular download actually is the free antivirus edition from AVG/Grisoft, and that’s why I said  ” Better be not protected than half protected” at least you’re taking care of what you’re are doing, and you don’t “think” you’re protected…

Free Editions and trials are offered from about every Antivirus Provider, don’t get full by this, it’s just to show you how it’s working and it’s just protecting a parcel of the risk. An Antivirus cast Maximum 40 $; an Internet Security is about 60 * maximuim and just 20 $ difference worth it, and I personnaly would pay 80 $ for a Norton 360 all in one security.

What’t that next level of security ?

Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, Registry Cleaner, Privacy controler, checking email and website you’re surfing on … we ‘re far ahead from the single antivirus figure.

Talking about prices and quality ?

It’s like cars ! You may like one that I hate and Vice versa. But think as well of the price of your comupter, privacy and datas …. to stupid to lose it for not paying 80 $ a year !

If you’r going for a free edition or free trial, don’t forget to upgrade !

And a last reminder, as much those programs are promising security, they don’t protect against stupidity … or Mars Attack !

Buying And Selling On E Bay.

August 24, 2009 · Posted in Scams · Comment

Having your ebay products drop shipped sounds like a great idea on the surface but the real question is; can you drop ship ebay goods and realistically count on them to arrive to your buyer on time, having the correct product, and in one piece? Most often the answer is yes, you can.

Having a 3rd party company drop ship ebay merchandise for you ideally works like this: Once you find a distributor to drop ship ebay goods for you then you place those products online in your ebay auction with a full description and a photo caption to go with it.

When your customer purchases this product and the payment is processed, you send the order to your distributor. The distributor in turn will always drop ship ebay merchandise to your customers. What makes it “drop-shipping” is that the package should always show that you were the actual shipper with the return label your business name and information without you actually having shipped it out.

If your distributor will drop ship ebay products for you and it all goes smoothly then this practice is a win win for everyone. You do not have to stock ebay inventory and your distributor has no worries of the retail sales end of things.

On the other hand, there are definitely stories of unreliable distributors that will offer to drop ship ebay products for you that you will want to stay clear from. You customer does not care who messes up a job if your distributor is supposed to drop ship ebay products to them and the product never arrives or comes damaged. Can you blame them? No way. If you had ordered a product from Ebay and the product never arrived then the owner of the auction would be to blame, regardless if that person claimed to have distributors drop ship ebay merchandise for them.

The best way to test new distributor is to place an order and have it shipped to a friend or family member so you can see how the shipping procedure goes. You will find out if they will drop ship ebay products for you on time and with the correct labeling. Good luck!

1. Bid Shielding: This is when a pre-organized group of ebay bidders enter the e bay marketplace and team up to bid on a particular item, thus inflating the high bid to scare off real shoppers. At this point the lowest bidder (member of the scam) then has everyone else retract their bid and comes out winning the auction at at a dishonest low price. 2. Descriptions are are totally misleading or photos that are obviously fake: This is an e bay marketplace sellers scam where the auctioneers falsely and unethically distort the description of the products they are selling. This criminal seller within the e bay marketplace will go as low as stealing photos from online and totally create a false product presentation. And when the buyer receives the shipment it is always a lesser classed product then was bought that does not match the auction.

3. Shilling of the Bids: This scam is perpetrated by the sellers of the e bay marketplace and is something that is hard to catch unless you were closely following the seller in question. Simply put, bid shilling is when a seller auctions off a product on the e bay marketplace and actually raises the bids himself in order to draw attention to it and have the price raised. How does one do this? They use multiple Ids or the enlist other separate bidders to enter the e bay marketplace and team up on the scam.

5 handy tips to help you start a ebay business

If you want to start a ebay business then it is vital to keep in mind that it is no different than the responsibilities of embarking on any other type of business. Sure you may be able to work from home, in your underwear, and never leave the couch; but it takes a little more than hopping on your computer to start a ebay business.

In today’s article we will go over 5 important tips that you can use to help get you moving to start a ebay business.

1. Create an office space or special room inside of your house or apartment for your ebay business. If you want to start a ebay business and make it successful then you are going to want to be able to focus and concentrate on your ebay goals. There is no better way to do this than to have your own office.

2. Write an ebay business plan. This is an important step when you start a ebay business and is most often overlooked by many new online ebay sellers. It is imperative that you put one together, even if your business plan is created on napkins! You will have to include a mission statement, a vision of your goals, your ebay profit and loss estimates, etc.

3. Create a checklist of what items you will need to set up your ebay campaign. Obviously, when you want to start a ebay business you will need to get your products listed and in view of others. Your checklist will include having a photo taken of your item, resizing and cropping your photo, creating your title and description of the ebay
auction, and of course – answering your bidder questions when available.

4. Decide on what you are going to sell on ebay. You cannot start a ebay business without a product. This choice is a personal one. You can find ebay products to sell from a wide range of sources. There are a few books on the subject of finding products to sell when you start a ebay business. One of the most popular items to sell are Antiques

5. Learn to budget your time as efficiently as possible. Start a ebay business with extreme time precision. In other words, if you have 5 hours a day to devote to making money on ebay then do not waste any time browsing through message groups, emailing your friends, or pondering an idea too much. Get out, find your product, and start
your ebay campaigns NOW!

What are the best selling items on eBay?

The very first question that comes from everyone’s mouth when wanting to sell on ebay is “What are the best selling items on ebay?” Now isn’t that the 64 million dollar question! Well I hate to sound like I’m playing games with you but the best selling items on ebay are anything and everything!

Of course there are some variables with might make some products to sell on ebay more efficient than others but the reality is that all of the best selling items on ebay can only be determined by you, your hobbies, your profit interests, and what resources are available to
you.

For example, there are thousands of ebay sellers that swear the best selling items on ebay are Antiques and collectibles. In fact, quite a few hard copy books and E-books have been written on this subject of selling old items like Antiques on Bay.

For many people the best selling items on eBay are any odds and ends that they may pick up at garage sales or in their own homes. Used clothes, toys, baseball cards, handmade bags, etc. are all best selling items on eBay.

Personally, I think that the best selling items on eBay are products that cost very little and turn a much bigger profit. Notice that I did not specifically describe a certain product or a certain service. That is because I go after the ‘market’ instead of the eBay product
first. This way of approaching your eBay business will skyrocket your profits, open up new doors to your selling, and increase your list of best selling items on eBay.

What are some examples of these types of products? Here is a secret tip for you: Digital products turned into hard copy books. This is a simple solution to selling information to eBay buyers who are not into E-books (because they need something tangible). You can create copies on paper, tapes, or even CDs to increase the value. Please keep in mind that this is what I consider to be the best selling items on eBay.

3 resources that can help you decide what sells best on eBay

Determining what sells best on eBay may take some trial and error if you are not already stocked with merchandise or if you are unable to create your own product. What sells best on eBay for one person may not be what sells best on eBay for another.

So how can you use trial and error to discover great eBay products and/or services to auction off on eBay? Below are 3 tips of places where you can find merchandise, place it online, and then test your sales to determine what sells best on eBay for you.

1. Find items to sell at large wholesale discount stores like Costco. Places like this typically have a huge inventory of cheap items sold in bulk that you can resell on eBay. They offer such good deals on all kinds of merchandise like toys, grills, DVDs, etc. You will have unlimited new products to choose from with wholesale outlets like this in order to determine what sells best on eBay.

2. Dollar stores are probably the best way to buy cheap items and resell with little risk of loosing money when you test to find out what sells best on eBay. The quality of products sold in dollar stores range from very poor quality on up to ‘diamonds in the rough’. I have seen the same products that I have purchased in a dollar store sold on eBay or at a swap meet for 10 times the original cost, not a bad profit!

3. Garage sales happen usually every weekend and there is a multitude of products that you can find to sell on eBay. What sells best on eBay from garage sales could range from antique furniture, to new or used video games, on up to old clothes.

Of course the above eBay product sources are just a few of the overall options available to you. They each are stock piled with product ideas that you can help you determine what sells best on eBay for your home based business.

Ebay: A virtual land of opportunity

When you first take a quick glance, the ebay opportunities website looks like this big, complicated, and confusing animal that probably takes a seasoned Internet veteran to master. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Ebay opportunities exist for all skill levels.

Of course ebay is always growing and constantly improving but regardless of these endless changes, the basics can always be found and there will always be the same old ebay opportunities for you to take advantage of as both a seller and a buyer. So why do so many people look for ebay opportunities at this website? The answer is simple; because there are more computers sold on ebay than anywhere else. There are more cars sold on ebay than anywhere else. There are more toys sold on ebay than anywhere else. Shall I go on? The list of ebay opportunities goes on and on into any market that you can think of.

Deciding on which of the ebay opportunities to take advantage of is probably the hardest step in the process. Depending on whether you are buying or selling, there are plenty of ebay opportunities available to you.

Lets take ‘automotive’ for example. You might think that no such ebay opportunities exist for such a commonly person-to-person transaction – wrong! In fact, there is an entire ebay category dedicated to automobiles and auto parts. Both new and used cars are hot ebay opportunities now more than ever before.

We hope that this brief description of what awaits you at ebay has you excited to look for great deals or great sales to take advantage of.

How to detect and avoid Internet scams – Part 1

August 22, 2009 · Posted in Scams · Comment

David Hannum once said “There’s a sucker born every minute” (believe it or not, it was not the famous Circus Showman, P.T. Barnum) and the large numbers of people on the Internet that try to defraud others is proof that they sincerely believe this. How does one detect and avoid Internet scams? Generally the scams will appeal to one of two emotions in a person either greed or generosity.

Attempts to defraud a person using greed tend to be easy to detect. Namely if it looks too good, it probably is a scam. Scenarios range from helping an ex-patriat claim millions of dollars in an overseas bank (usually in a Third World country like Nigeria or Zaire) to being notified you have a winning ticket in this year’s Irish Sweepstakes. Typically you will be asked to send so much money to a PO Box or street address (that turns out later to be an abandoned property) and they promise to send you back 10 times what is supplied.

Even calling the toll free number in the memo could be dangerous because if the number rings a phone in a location like the West Indies, your phone bill will be charged hundreds of dollars while the con man tries to keep you on the line as long as possible. The sad part is you won’t know till a month later of your loss. By then they will be long gone with the money leaving you to fight with the telephone company.

Another popular scheme is to pretend to be a bank or the Social Security Administration to get names and Social Security numbers. Why is that a concern? Once you have that information it is very easy to get credit cards in the victim’s name and charge thousands of dollars. Again the first you will know of this is when the collection agencies show up on your doorstep looking for payment for the thousands of dollars charged to cards you didn’t know you had. Anyone who thinks there isn’t much information on them already on the Internet should go to www.pipl.com and look up their name.

For investments, I have never dealt directly with a company and will go through a licensed brokerage firm. The profit margin isn’t as big but most brokers have access to information and can tell you whether a deal is legitimate or not. Otherwise if you don’t have a brokerage account, I would recommend never responding to an on-line solicitation for funds.

How about defrauding folks using generosity? Typically these will be “charities” that spring up around a major disaster. For example after the 9-11 bombing, there were hundreds of

Software reviews: Symantec Norton Antivirus (2008) – Part 3

August 22, 2009 · Posted in Antivirus · Comment

In broad terms, the coming of Norton Antivirus 2008 to the marketplace heralded two kinds of news. The good and the not-so-good news.

The good news is Norton Antivirus 2008, with an array of fantastic features, is Symantec’s proof that it just upped the ante in its warfare against spyware, worms and viruses, whether emanating from emails, IM-induced, or browsers-borne. The news less savory is you may not be part of the fun-train of the vintage antivirus if your Windows Operating System preceded the XP.

In other words, Norton Antivirus 2008 is both XP- and Vista-friendly for obvious reasons. It requires a minimum of 300MHz of processor strength, 256MB RAM, and 300MB of available disk space.

Going at $40 less a single cent, Norton Antivirus delivers on its promises given enhanced practical performance in protection against spyware and viruses as well as rootkits removal on contact and detection of emerging threats without signatures.

One of many beautiful things about Symantec’s Norton Antivirus 2008 is the ease of installation followed by quick lively updates. Its simple configurations would thrill anyone who is not particularly impressed with complicated security software gizmos.

Of particular importance is the unobtrusive manner Norton Antivirus 2008 was designed to carry out it tasks. Once installed and activated, Norton Antivirus 2008 works silently in the background as you navigate through your mail and your file system. This is one of the four new features worn by the new Norton Antivirus 2008.

The other three new features of Norton Antivirus 2008 are: one, the much-improved, faster scans. Two, one click access to expert support; and three, a network mapping that provides a view of your home network.

The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Scanning with Norton Antivirus 2008 is a curious concern. I had an inspiring stint of its scanning speed, working overnight over a friend’s laptop. In just about one and a half hour, Norton Antivirus 2008, working quietly in the background, had examined precisely 648,900 files. That’s an outrageous 7k plus per minute.

The single click to expert support is one novel innovation guaranteed to take the strain off the vintage product, especially for newbies and non-techno geeks. A 24/7 expert support for users of Norton Antivirus 2008 is a delightful experience, even though not all consultation is absolutely free. From experience, clients and users appreciate technical cum customer support

Now when you get t his info it gives you the email address, STMP info and IP that it came from. Now this is how you trace and track these bad guys. If you look in the header. you should see on the 4th row “ReceivedFROM”. Now you should see these numbers right. Ok that is the senders IP address. Now with that information you find their location. As you see the scammer ip was 80.12.242.111 now you can go to this web site and get their info:

Just go to http://www.geobytes.com/IpLoca tor.htm find the IP Number.

Now put the number in the form hit submit. It will tell you it came from France. Now here is one thing. Now you have the information and then submit it to:

Software reviews: NOD 32 Antivirus – Part 1

August 20, 2009 · Posted in Antivirus · Comment

NOD 32 Antivirus is not all it’s cracked up to be!

While using NOD 32 Antivirus I found the use of the product easy to navigate and pretty east to use. But, to test this product, I installed a known virus onto one of my test machines and ran the virus scanner to see if it would detect it. I made sure to update everything I could for the software including the virus definitions database, but when I ran the scan it did not find the virus, but when I ran another product that I trust and use frequently, it found the virus in a matter of two minutes. There is no reason why it should not have found the virus, when it is old and a known virus…

They have a bunch of charts and graphs on the developer’s website that shows how it is better than the rest, but I say give NOD 32 Antivirus a try and you’ll just be disappointed. There are many other antivirus programs out there and I would suggest that you go and try one of those before thinking about using NOD 32 Antivirus. The only good aspect is the malware protection, but I’d rather use other products to handle my malware and spyware threats. I give NOD 32 Antivirus 2/5 stars only for that fact that it failed the very first test I tried…
