Is Avast Anti-Virus free forever? and is it a good antivirus? I have heard a lot of good stuff about it?

I was just wondering if anyone has it and can give me feedback about Avast Anti-Virus. Thanks.

Yes – it is completely free. My friend has been using it for three years. I use antivir, that is free too.

    Hi
Yep it’s Absolutely free and it’s very very good! I’ve tried a good few in my day but I prefer this over them all! Plus if I go to download a file which has a virus an alarm will sound off (from Avast) warning me of it… I just Love it! :-)

According to AV comparison labs, Avast is one of the better programs, free or paid. Has actually beaten Norton, Kaspersky and McAfee !!
YES, it is free but you do have to re-register every year. No big deal… what’s a few minutes a year for some of the best protection?

Unless Alwil (makers of avast! antivirus) change it’s freeware policy (unlikely right now), avast! home edition will still remain free.

According to av-comparatives.org, avast! scored advance+ in the On-Demand test which is the highest score that an antivirus can get (Although it says avast! pro edition, avast! home edition (free) has the same detection rate as the pro so the score for home edition is the same (advance+)).

I’ve been using avast! for over three years and it never caused any problems for my computer at all, plus it has multiple shields (web shield, network shield, IM shield, etc) that can provide secondary protection and doesn’t use up a lot of memory.

The new version of avast! (4.8) home edition now has the ability to detect spyware and rootkits.

Note: When you install avast! , you’ll need to register a license key that expires after 14 months (if you’re using the free version of avast! you can re-register for another key for free every year).

You can register for avast! license key here:
