March 6, 2010 · Posted in Spyware · Comment

If you think that surfing the Internet is always safe and nothing will happen to your PC, think again. In reality, some websites insert a little program or code into your hard drive without your permission and secretly track your surfing habits. This little code or program is known as a spyware. It is called as such because it secretly digs out the web addresses of the websites you have visited and send the information to someone on the other end. You wouldn’t want anyone to pry on you, would you? So what should you do? Protect your PC from spywares obviously.

Here are some things you can do to protect your PC from spywares:

1. Install a firewall if you have not done so.

2. Run the firewall and always keep it running whenever you are using your PC.

3. Use McAfee or any other similar program to check whether the website your are visiting is free of spyware.

3. Do not simply click on any questionable banners on any website as they may contain secret codes that will secretly install spywares onto your hard drive.

4. Make sure the software you is certified free of spyware before downloading it.

To ensure that you do have any spyware in your hard drive.

1. Use your favourite search engine to look for a list of known spywares and the best spyware removal for each of the spywares Look also for any spyware removal that is actually a spyware itself or a scam.

2. Look for reviews on each of the spyware removals to help you decide which one is the most suitable for your PC. The best reviews are usually found in reputable computer or Internet magazines. If the software is produced by a reputable company, you can safely say that the spyware removal is safe to use.

3. Download the spyware removal you have chosen and install it onto your PC.

4. Run the spyware removal to detect spywares, and to remove any that is found on your PC.

By now, your PC should be well protected from spywares. However, it is better to be safe than sorry. Therefore, it is wise to check your PC for spywares everyday.

How to prevent your PC from being infected with spyware – Part 6

March 3, 2010 · Posted in Spyware · Comment

Spyware is one the biggest annoyances for computer users today. It can easily attack any computer that isn’t protected. Spyware is so successful because many people have no idea what it is or how to prevent it. In order to save yourself the hassle of dealing with these unwanted pests, use the following tips.

USE AN ANTI-SPYWARE PROGRAM

Using an anti-spyware program is one the most efficient ways of preventing spyware. There are many programs you can use. Some cost money and others are free. If you are looking for something that is free but don’t have many needs, you can use a program such as Spybot:Search and Destroy. If you have a little bit of money to spend and have larger needs, you can use a program such as Spyware Doctor.

Spybot:Search and Destroy is a free program that searches your system for spyware. Unlike programs that cost money, Spybot is much slower and doesn’t detect major threats. It does offer the same amount of protection if you don’t already have spyware in your system.

Spyware Doctor is program that you must pay to use. It is fast and detects every level of threatening spyware you may have on your computer. The cost depends on how much spyware it has to detect and delete. It also protects your computer from spyware you might come in contact with in the future.

DON’T CLICK ON POP-UPS

Pop-ups can be a version of spyware called adware. If you click on them, you are encouraging them to continue to pop up. Many sites that try to sell you stuff will use adware to target your most commonly searched words. For example, if you search for jewelry a lot on Google, adware will use pop-ups for jewelry to get you to buy from a certain company.

DON’T ENTER YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION UNLESS IT IS A SECURE CONNECTION

Some spyware is advanced enough to sell companies your personal information. If you enter your address and phone number in an online contest and you don’t know if the connection is secure, spyware has access to that information too! You could jeopardize a lot of important information that way.

Spyware can be tricky if you don’t know how to prevent and/or deal with it. Using these simple tips will help you prevent harmful things from entering your computer. Your computer will be happy and so will you.

How to prevent your PC from being infected with spyware – Part 4

March 2, 2010 · Posted in Spyware · Comment

The Internet is not safe. Even the most cautious web surfers can be the victim of malicious spyware. What is spyware? Spyware takes many forms, from simple “cookies” (small text files unknowingly saved to your hard drive) to huge networks of viral programs. And exactly how dangerous can spyware be? Well there is quite a range of exactly how detrimental spyware can be to your PC performance and web browsing experience. Some spyware programs simply change your “home” website, while worse ones create pop-up advertisements. Some spyware programs are capable of even more destruction, they can log each and every key you type, save personal and financial information (credit card and bank account information) and assist in identity theft.

Wow, the internet sure does sound dangerous! How can I prevent myself from being infected with spyware? One of the easiest things one can do to keep spyware-free is be extremely cautious with which websites your browse and what you download! If it sounds too good to be true, well it probably is; that free music, video, or game is most likely spyware. Not only be careful what websites you visit, be very careful with what kind of information you put on the internet. Make sure it is a well-known and trusted site before you give them any personal or financial information. Better yet use well known and legitimate paying services like PayPal(www.paypal.com), or Google Checkout (checkout.google.com). Not only being wary of the sites you browse can be helpful, but changing how you browse them may help as well. Internet Explorer is most definitely the most exploited and least secure of the many free web browsing programs. As an easy to use and free alternative I suggest Mozilla’s Firefox (www.mozilla.com/firefox/) as well as Opera (www.opera.com) and Maxthon (www.maxthon.com). I_f you find compatability issues and are heart-set on staying with Internet Explorer I suggest you use the free online tool, PC Pit Stop (www.pcpitstop.com) to help configure your Internet Explorer settings in the most secure way.

But I’m already infected, what can I do?! Well, luckily IT professionals and fed-up web browsers, have created programs that can both prevent and remove spyware. They are usually simple tools created to remove spyware and delete unwanted cookies, but you must be very careful which program you choose to use. Many of these programs simply install spyware that they promise they will get rid of! To avoid this here are a few easy to use absolutely free programs that anyone will be able to use. A very popular one is Ad-Aware (www.lavasoftusa.com), as well as Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/atho me/security/spyware/software/d efault.mspx), SpyBot S&D (www.safer-networking.org/). An important tip to keep in mind is that you must keep these programs updated! New viruses are coming out every day to try and get through these programs, and these programs must be updated frequently to be effective in todays internet. In the end, a stitch in time saves nine! Avoiding getting spyware, by being smart and cautious, is the best way to prevent harm from spyware.

Spyware Removal Software – Review for Getting Help

March 2, 2010 · Posted in Spyware · Comment

Spyware are very nasty programs that get downloaded onto your PC. Spyware files get downloaded in various ways. When you enter a web site that has these types of programs on them they will automatically get downloaded to your pc the minute you enter the site. It is wise to have a spyware removal program to stop this from happening. Once one gets downloaded you no longer have any privacy. It is recommended to have spyware removal software to stop this before it happens.

Another way these programs get downloaded to your pc is when you are downloading files or software from a site that has these files. I spent the past 16 years as a systems analyst for a very large company. From this experience I have found that it is helpful to have some sort of spyware removal software on your computer.

It is quite common that many sites that offer free downloads infect your PC with spyware. Once a spyware file is downloaded to your PC it monitors your activity as well as were you go on the web, all your keystrokes, and many other things. The information that the spyware file gathers gets automatically sent off to its host site without your knowledge.

Adware infections are very similar and can slow your computer down the same as the spyware. You may suspect your infected by adware when you keep getting redirected to other sites and receive tons of pop ups.

Spyware programs, once loaded on your computer can really slow your pc down to a snails pace. Sometimes they cause such problems that you can no longer even use your pc. Proper removal of the spyware is crucial in order to clean up your pc.

It is important to choose reliable spyware removal software that will effectively remove these unwanted spyware files from you computer. It is also important to make sure you have the most up to date spyware removal software on the market.

When choosing what sites to go to on the web you should be safe and carefully choose what site you are directing yourself to. Popular big name companies and such are usually very safe sites to visit. Remember not all sites that offer free software are sites that will infect your computer. However I have noticed that many sites that do offer free stuff to download like games, movies, and free software are many times the source of these spyware files.

Surf the Internet safely and be careful what sites you surf and buy your self a good spyware protection program. One program I have had great success with over the years is NoAdware. The software will remove adware and spyware from your pc. I will post another article soon with a review of the NoAdware spyware removal software. If you would like to see the software feel free to visit my website.

How to prevent your PC from being infected with spyware – Part 8

February 24, 2010 · Posted in Spyware · Comment

Spyware has got to be one of the most frustrating things about owning a computer. When downloading programs and applications from the internet, it can be difficult to know if spyware is tagging along with it. Once that spyware is in your computer, it can be difficult to track down and get rid of it.

If you don’t know what Spyware is, it is basically a type of computer software that is downloaded to your computer, usually when you download something from the internet, and takes over your computer much like a virus does. The difference is that Spyware is in the form of advertisements, and are more annoying and frustrating than harmful. Spyware can take form of tool bars that show up in your Internet Browser (IE, Firefox, etc) and often times cause pop-ups to show up on your computer for no apparent reason.

Sometimes Spyware shows up in the form of fake computer messages in pop-up boxes, with yes or no options just like a real option from your own computer. It seems that no matter what answer you click, yes or no, it isn’t actually a real button and most of the time takes you to their web page to try and sell you their product or service.

My first experience with spyware was when I downloaded a little guy named the “Bonzi Buddy”. A purple little gorilla that would sit on the corner of your computer screen. And I tell you, after I downloaded that program, my computer quickly filled up with advertisements, popups, and spam. At the time, I wasn’t sure what to do, as I wasn’t as acquainted with technology as I am now. I had no choice but to completely restore my computer to factory condition which completely wipes out your computer of all your stored information and files. But it had to be done.

Later down the road, I had downloaded a program and sure enough in comes the spyware. Knowing that there had to be something else I could do, I asked around and searched the net for a solution to my spyware problem. Sure enough, I found an answer with a friend of mine, and he introduced me to AdAware.

AdAware is a program that scans your hard drive (as well as external devices you may happen to have) for spyware, adware, and anything similar. It completely cleans your computer of these annoyances, and your computer is cured of their frustrating pop-ups. You can get a copy for free at download.com the only thing you pay for is if you want the paid upgrade. Which is completely worth it, by the way. It’s quick, easy, and even if you don’t know whether or not your computer is loaded with spyware, it will search it out and find it no problem. I highly recommend this program to anybody that has a computer that’s been acting a little “funny” lately.

Spyware doesn’t have to ruin your day completely – fight back with AdAware 2007, and give it the wrath it deserves.
