Spyware is one the biggest annoyances for computer users today. It can easily attack any computer that isn’t protected. Spyware is so successful because many people have no idea what it is or how to prevent it. In order to save yourself the hassle of dealing with these unwanted pests, use the following tips.
USE AN ANTI-SPYWARE PROGRAM
Using an anti-spyware program is one the most efficient ways of preventing spyware. There are many programs you can use. Some cost money and others are free. If you are looking for something that is free but don’t have many needs, you can use a program such as Spybot:Search and Destroy. If you have a little bit of money to spend and have larger needs, you can use a program such as Spyware Doctor.
Spybot:Search and Destroy is a free program that searches your system for spyware. Unlike programs that cost money, Spybot is much slower and doesn’t detect major threats. It does offer the same amount of protection if you don’t already have spyware in your system.
Spyware Doctor is program that you must pay to use. It is fast and detects every level of threatening spyware you may have on your computer. The cost depends on how much spyware it has to detect and delete. It also protects your computer from spyware you might come in contact with in the future.
DON’T CLICK ON POP-UPS
Pop-ups can be a version of spyware called adware. If you click on them, you are encouraging them to continue to pop up. Many sites that try to sell you stuff will use adware to target your most commonly searched words. For example, if you search for jewelry a lot on Google, adware will use pop-ups for jewelry to get you to buy from a certain company.
DON’T ENTER YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION UNLESS IT IS A SECURE CONNECTION
Some spyware is advanced enough to sell companies your personal information. If you enter your address and phone number in an online contest and you don’t know if the connection is secure, spyware has access to that information too! You could jeopardize a lot of important information that way.
Spyware can be tricky if you don’t know how to prevent and/or deal with it. Using these simple tips will help you prevent harmful things from entering your computer. Your computer will be happy and so will you.
